We have closed the January 2016 survey and appreciate your participation. We received thousands of responses to our survey: “What Matters Most to You” and here are the results!
You are most concerned about improving teacher pay and per-pupil funding, which are two issues we never stop fighting for, whether the legislature is in session or not. You’re also motivated to improve students’ experiences in the classroom, asking us to continue to press for universal Pre-K, more teaching assistants, and reducing class sizes.
Finally, 77% of you want us to devote our time to advocating for local control of our public schools and their funding by:
- preventing expansion of the state’s voucher program
- blocking the establishment of an Achievement School District
- preventing the creation of an Education Savings Account program,
- maintaining locally elected school boards and giving them control of area charters, and
- keeping local money from going to charters for services they don’t even provide and improving their accountability to the citizens who fund them
Together we have established a set of priorities to support and defend North Carolina’s strong system of public schools in this year’s legislative session. We have a lot of work to do together!
Based on your input, pending bills before the general assembly and recent committee meetings held by general assembly members, we prioritized our legislative agenda for 2016. SEE HERE.
Now, one last request! Please take the 1st step in letting your legislator know what you feel are the most important issues facing our public schools this session. CLICK here to find out who represents you in the NC Senate and the NC House.
