Please make the adjustments necessary to the 2022 budget to ensure that our NC principals do not experience a pay reduction in January. At a minimum, establish a hold harmless provision to protect principals from harm due to pandemic and other challenges completely out of their control. Ideally, principal pay should be reworked to add back pay to recognized years of experience and advanced degrees. The current focus on test scores is detrimental to the goal of creating healthy and equitable school communities. Our principals have worked extremely hard over the past few years to maintain positive learning conditions for students in the face of an unprecedented pandemic, huge staffing shortages, student emotional health crises, and increased parental scrutiny. They led their staff in completely flipping in-person instruction to virtual and hybrid instruction and kept our schools open and our students were their top priority! They deserve our support! Thank you.
