Charter schools have nearly doubled since the cap was lifted in 2011. Charter schools are largely unregulated, siphon money from traditional public schools and exacerbate segregation. Further, there is no evidence charters produce better long-term outcomes for students and they are not meeting the requirements of the state statute that created charter schools. It is time to put the cap back on the number of charter schools allowed. We propose a comprehensive review of charter student performance, fiscal management, and the impact of charter-related policies on students, public schooling, and taxpayers. Let’s stop adding new charters or expanding an existing one and have a reset! #PutTheCapBack
