Please stop spending public tax dollars on private school vouchers! In numerous high-quality evaluation studies, private school vouchers were shown to be harmful to the students who used them. NC is underfunding its public schools that open their doors to all children. Legislators should not be spending our educational tax dollars on damaging voucher programs when spending the money on improving public education is a proven investment that will help all students and improve our communities. North Carolina should, at minimum, put a moratorium on all voucher program growth and require rigorous accountability from schools receiving voucher funds. In addition, a high-quality evaluation should be conducted to determine whether the money spent-to-date has produced the same level of harmful effects as seen in other states. Undermining our public school system is harmful to our local economies and destroys the social fabric of our communities. Funding public schools has a demonstrated large and reliable return on investment. School vouchers devastate academics. Don’t waste our taxpayer dollars on failed programs. Spend our money on programs that work and benefit ALL students: public schools.
