Record Number of Homeless Children Enrolled in Public Schools, New Data Show

New data from the U.S. Department of Education shows that more than 1.1  million homeless students–10 percent more than the previous year–are enrolled in the nation’s public schools. North Carolina is among the states with the biggest growth in the number of homeless students at 53 percent.
