US Senate Committee Votes Against School Voucher Plan

In an important victory for church-state separation, a U.S. Senate committee has handily voted down a voucher proposal that could have diverted billions to religious and other private schools.

At a June 12 markup, the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee voted 14-8 against an amendment to S. 1094, the “Strengthening America’s Schools Act,” that would let states use federal funds for vouchers.
